Each year, the San Diego Cesar E Chavez Commemoration Committee organizes a community breakfast which honors and celebrates the work in the San Diego community which is reflective of the values held by Cesar Chavez. The program is dedicated to the recognition of sacrifice in the areas of education, volunteerism and leadership. This annual event has become a San Diego tradition which hosts students,
elected officials, community leaders from nonprofit organizations and education as we celebrate the life and legacy of Cesar Chavez.
This year, we are proud to celebrate our 21st annual breakfast. A highlight of the breakfast is a scholarship that open to students in San Diego and Imperial counties. The winning high school student is invited to read their essay on stage. I was honored to be invited as a keynote speaker to share my life experiences and work that encompasses the spirit of ¡Si Se Puede! Between the keynote address and the scholarship presentation, our guests often leave our event feeling inspired and ready to walk back out into the world and continue the fight for justice.
